01 · UNDERSTAND THE CONDITION

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Your plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, from your heel bone to your toes. It supports your arch and acts like a shock absorber every time your foot hits the ground.

When that band is overloaded again and again — by long hours on your feet, ramping up your running, or unsupportive shoes — it develops inflammation and small areas of micro-tears where it attaches to the heel. The result is Plantar Fasciitis: one of the most common causes of heel pain in adults.

The good news: Because plantar fasciitis is a repetitive strain injury from overuse, it responds remarkably well to a mix of targeted off-loading, hands-on soft tissue work, and progressive strengthening.

AT A GLANCE

  • Where it hurts: bottom of the heel, sometimes along the arch
  • Worst: first steps in the morning or after sitting
  • Common in: runners, walkers, and people who stand all day
  • Typical age: most often adults 40–60
  • Recovery: usually improves with consistent conservative care

02 · RECOGNIZE THE CONDITION

Symptoms, causes & risk factors

Signs you may have Plantar Fasciitis

  • Sharp or stabbing pain at the bottom of the heel
  • Pain that's worst with your first steps in the morning
  • Pain that returns after sitting or standing for a while
  • Pain that eases once you warm up, then flares after activity
  • Tenderness when you press on the inside of the heel
  • Tightness in the arch or calf

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

  • A sudden increase in activity that strains your feet
  • Long hours standing or walking on hard surfaces
  • Worn-out or unsupportive footwear
  • Tight calf muscles or a stiff Achilles tendon
  • Flat feet, high arches, or other foot mechanics
  • Extra body weight adding load to the arch

When to see a doctor: It’s always best to get an accurate diagnosis of plantar fasciitis from a physician or podiatrist before starting treatment. Please schedule an appointment if your heel pain follows an acute injury, is accompanied by numbness, tingling, or swelling, prevents normal walking, or fails to improve with conservative self-care.

03 · TREAT IT

How physical therapists treat Plantar Fasciitis — and how you can at home

The Alleviate Method follows the same three-part clinical approach a PT would use: take strain off the tissue, mobilize it, then make it stronger so the pain doesn't come back.

STEP 1 · LOAD MANAGEMENT

Off-Load Damaged Tissue With the Loft 2 Brace

Every step you take puts strain on your plantar fascia. The Loft 2 Brace features an adjustable power strap that mirrors a physical therapist’s taping technique—supporting the arch, off-loading damaged tissue for immediate heel pain relief, and protecting the plantar fascia from further injury.

STEP 2 · MOBILIZATION

Release Adhesions With the Arch Massager

Targeted soft tissue massage breaks up scar tissue and boosts blood flow to the plantar fascia. Alleviate’s uniquely designed Arch Massager lets you target the heel and arch with precise acupressure or deep-tissue relief—pair it with Recovery Balm for a smoother glide.

STEP 3 · STRENGTHENING

Strengthen With the Guided Recovery App

A progressive exercise program stretches and strengthens your foot to keep plantar fasciitis from returning. The six-level Guided Recovery Program in the Alleviate App demonstrates proper technique and guides you daily, adjusting in real time at your own pace based on your inputs..

05 · WHAT TO EXPECT

Your plantar fasciitis recovery timeline with Alleviate

Plantar Fasciitis doesn't build up overnight, and it doesn't resolve overnight either. With 10–15 minutes of daily, consistent work, here's what Alleviate users typically report.

WEEK 1

~20%

Early relief. Off-loading and daily massage typically bring a quick drop in pain within the first 7 days.

DAY 28

50%

Half the pain. On average, it takes users about 28 days to cut their pain in half.

WEEK 6

40–70%

Lasting progress. Consistent users of a full System typically see a 40–70% reduction in pain over six weeks as strength builds.

Based on Alleviate user-reported outcomes. Individual results vary.

07 · FAQ

Plantar Fasciitis questions, answered

Still deciding? These are the questions we hear most from people dealing with heel pain.

How long until my heel feels better?

Most consistent users feel a difference within the first week — typically around a 20% drop in pain. On average it takes about 28 days to cut pain in half, and a 40–70% reduction over six weeks is typical with a full System. Individual results vary.

How do I know if my foot pain is Plantar Fasciitis?

Location is the biggest clue. Plantar Fasciitis usually hurts on the bottom of the heel or along the arch, and it's worst with your first steps in the morning. Pain on the top of the foot, the inside of the ankle, or the ball of the foot often points to a different condition. Our foot pain chart maps common causes by where it hurts, and a doctor or podiatrist can confirm the diagnosis.

See the foot pain chart →
Do I need the full System, or can I buy only what I want?

You can buy any product in the collection. The Plantar Fasciitis System bundles the Loft 2 Brace, Arch Massager, and the Guided Recovery Program, so you get all three parts of the treatment approach — off-loading, tissue mobilization, and strengthening — together.

How much time do I need to dedicate each day?

About 5 minutes for the massager at the beginning and end of the day. About 10–15 minutes for the Guided Recovery Program 4-5 times a week.

Can I keep running or walking with Plantar Fasciitis?

It depends on the severity of your condition. Wearing the Loft 2 Brace takes strain off the fascia during activity, and the Guided Recovery Program helps you build back up gradually. If an activity causes sharp or worsening pain, scale it back.

Can I wear the Loft 2 Brace inside my shoes?

Yes. The Loft 2 Brace fits comfortably inside your everyday shoes over a thin sock. Because it adds about 4 mm of thickness, slim or thin socks work best.

Which foot and size should I order?

Choose Left, Right, or Both depending on where you have pain. Sizes run S to XL by shoe size — the size guide on product page shows the men's and women's ranges.

Can I pay with my HSA or FSA?

Yes. Alleviate is HSA/FSA eligible — you can use your pre-tax health funds at checkout.

Is this a replacement for seeing a doctor?

No. Alleviate is designed to support at-home recovery, not replace medical care. If your pain is severe, sudden, or comes with numbness, swelling, or a visible deformity, please see a doctor or physical therapist.
