A complex joint, knee is easy to irritate again after an injury. Runner's Knee, or Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, occurs when an inner thigh muscle called vastus medialis oblique (or VMO) switches off in response to pain signals. Working with outer thigh muscles, the VMO positions the kneecap (patella) in the correct location, so an imbalance between the inner and outer thigh muscles exacerbates the malalignment of the kneecap, causing more pain.

To stop this vicious cycle, we need to teach the brain and the VMO that activities won't cause pain - by giving them multiple successful experiences. This is why in the Runner's Knee Guided Recovery Program, you'll never exercise through pain. What will my daily routine look like?

With all the PT guidance built in, you'll know exactly what to do every day. With trial & error eliminated, your recovery work takes just 10-15 minutes a day. Here's what it typically looks like:

  • Prepare your VMO for activities, including your PT exercises, with gentle, quick strokes of your Alleviate Massage Blade.
  • Find 10-15 minutes in your day to complete your daily PT routine. The program is short and doesn't require any special equipment, so you can do it anytime, anywhere - during your lunch hour, as a part of your gym workout, or while dinner is cooking.
  • After activities and PT exercises, use deeper strokes of the Alleviate Massage Blade on your thigh muscles (VMO, ITB and others) to release tension, reduce pain, and facilitate tissue healing.
